"Part 3: The Sacred Bead"
from the "World on a String" DVD Series

"World on a String" is a five-part documentary on human history as told though the history of beads. The series was produced by award-winning film editor and producer Diana Friedberg over the course of a decade. There are five titles in the series:

                                     Part 1: The Eternal Bead
Part 2: The Tiny Mighty Bead
                                     Part 3: The Sacred Bead
                                     Part 4: The Treasured Bead
Part 5: A Passion for Beads

In 2005, when the first two DVD's became available, Beadesigner members had an opportunity to view them through the generosity of one of our members. We have now purchased the entire series and will start off the 2010 program season by viewing the third DVD: "Part 3: The Sacred Bead".

Below is a description of the series from the website http://www.worldonastringmovie.com/:

"This is a story never told before and certainly never attempted on the scale to which the producer has gone to convey the extent of the subject's canvas. This is human drama of the most potent and powerful kind, and a tale that weaves its way through cultures, traditions, religions, and histories all over the globe. The series was shot on location on five continents and presents a truly stunning picture of how a tiny object transformed human thinking and influenced social behavior over the eons. While it dips back into the deepest recesses of time, it is nevertheless very much a contemporary story set in the modern day. It includes extraordinary footage in which we meet amazing personalities from tribal chiefs to shamans, craftsmen, artists, and priests."

Each episode in the series tells its own story and takes the viewer on an amazing journey through many countries. All who are interested in beads and in human history will find this a fascinating saga. The film runs for about 90 mins.
