Unbuttoning Attleboro’s Part: Discover how a small New England town became a global center of adornment.
The Attleboro Area Industrial Museum traces Attleboro’s transformation from the birthplace of America’s first stamped metal buttons in the 1790s to its rise as the Jewelry Capital of the World by the 1950s. Along the way, we’ll explore how innovations in button-making, military insignia production, and decorative metalwork laid the foundation for a booming jewelry industry. Perfect for those curious about the intersections of design, industry, and history.
Victoria Antonucci is a public historian and museum professional who serves as Executive Director of the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum. She brings a deep commitment to community-centered storytelling, with a focus on the enduring legacy of metalworking and manufacturing in southern New England. Victoria holds a B.A. in Anthropology, Art History, and Latin from the University of Vermont and an MLIS from Simmons University with a concentration in archives. Her work blends exhibit curation, educational outreach, and nonprofit leadership. At AAIM, she has grown hands-on STEM programs, revitalized exhibitions, and led major fundraising efforts, including the museum’s 50th anniversary campaign. In her talks, Victoria explores how local industry shaped communities and how museums can reinterpret history to stay relevant and impactful.
