January Zoom Workshop Day 2 Geometric Beadwork Masterclass

Sun January 24, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

This class will be run over 2 sessions (each 5 hours long with a 15-minute break)
The dates are: Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24, 2021

Presented by Jean Power

Love the look of geometric beadwork and want to master beading the shapes for yourself? Then this class, which teaches the fundamentals of geometric beadwork right through to advanced explorations and variations, is for you!
The class will cover all of the basic geometric beaded shapes (triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons) as well as lots of different ways to use them to create jewellery and vessels.

Over the 2-days, using the basic principles of geometric beading, you’ll learn how to make stars, bangles, beaded beads,.

Schedule – Day One, January 23

What you need for today:

• Cylinder beads
• Needle & thread
What we’ll cover in class:
• The basics of geometric beadwork
• How to design basic stripes & patterns
• Beading triangles
• Joining components
• Taking your work 3-dimensional (increasing & decreasing)
• Larger central holes for beaded beads & bangles
• Beading Pentagons
• Beading hexagons, necklaces, rick-racks and much more.

Day Two, January 24, 2021

What you need for today: Your beadwork from yesterday and the same materials & tools.

What we’ll cover in class:

• All about Stars and their origins
• How to bead the Distorted Squares (2 different methods)
• How to use Distorted Squares
• How to turn Squares into Stars
• How to bead Rick-Racks

This is an intermediate course; therefore the instructor recommends that participants should be comfortable with peyote stitch prior to taking the two-day workshop.

You’ll be sent instructions for some specific projects each of which has their own requirements but for the class we will be covering multiple techniques over the 2 days and so I recommend for the class that you have:

• 5g each of at least 3 different colours of size 11 Cylinder beads (e.g. Delicas, Aikos or Treasures)
• Beading thread and needles of choice (I recommend a flexible thread such as One G, KO, Miyuki or Nymo and not Fireline but if you love Fireline then do use this)
