Summer Program – 3 Free classes for BDI Members Only
Artist Presenter: Kristin Konzak, Beader
This summer, Kristin Konzak, BDI Membership Chair, will offer a three-part workshop, free to all BDI members, about how to create a three-dimensional beaded faerie character. The faerie pattern, designed by designer Nancy Jenner, came to BDI from Beadworkers Guild (BWG).
We will create the faeries over three sections, but people are free to work at their own pace:
June 18 (1-4 pm) base and body
July 16 (1-4 pm) head and hood
August 13 (1-4 pm) wings, arms, and embellishments
Skill Level:
This is technically an intermediate pattern, but that just means you should be very comfortable with the basic peyote stitch. Kristin will teach an easy way to learn peyote in the round, increasing and decreasing with spiral peyote, and basic three-dimensional construction.

Ideas:
Design your faerie to mimic plants, flowers, or favorite characters. Check out the Facebook pages for BDI, Beadworkers Guild, and Seed Beads and More, for examples of what others have made.
Come to learn and leave with a new joy in beading and an adorable addition for your mantle. They make great gifts for kids, young and old.
Materials/Tools to bring:
The faerie pattern is written to make the body with the smaller Miyuki seed beads to contrast with the larger TOHO seed beads used for the face. However, it looks fine with all TOHO seed beads. A TOHO body and Miyuki face won’t have the subtle contrast in the face, but it will also work.
Likewise, other brands of seed beads can be used, but they must be of a consistent size. Either 11/0 or 8/0 work well. The base can be the same bead size as the rest of body if you do not want to use the smaller 15/0s.
The body parts are broken out in the pattern to indicate where you can use assorted color beads and where different sizes are needed for the eyes and hands. Use your bead stash for embellishments on the hood and arms and use your imagination to create a faerie unique to you!
