Feb Virtual Workshop Ribbon Beads with Janet Haigh and Heart Space Studios

Sun February 20, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Ribbon Beads Workshop with Janet Haigh and her team from Heart Space Studios

We are so excited! Janet Haigh and her colleagues, Ilaria Padovani and Jane-Marie Mahy have sent us a fantastic video that will give you a fabulous overview of the workshop the team has put together especially for us. We suggest that you check out the video below so that you will be as excited as we are.

Internationally known multi-media artist Janet Haigh and her colleagues at her Heart Space Studios bring their expertise and passion to BDI with a workshop to create ribbon beads, as seen in the book “ Little Ribbon Patchwork and Appliqué.”  Using packs of small pieces of ribbon and felt strips – all included in the kit provided with the workshop and prepared specifically for BDI – each participant will make a dozen or so ribbon beads. Use the front or the back sides of the provided Jaquard ribbons to show off their beautiful designs.  Add on the included tiny glass beads for embellishment and the gold thread for wrapping and stitching, or add your own beads and thread.  Create one of a kind ribbon beads unique to you. No experience necessary.

Workshop cost – includes kit (enough material for making at least 12 beads):
Members: $55.00
Non-members: $85.00
Board members: $45.00

Additional materials needed:
– Small trimming scissors
– Sewing threads in various colours (to stitch the felt)
– Sewing and beading needles. Please, ensure that your beading needle can accommodate your tiny seed beads and the sewing needle can accommodate the metal threads – long eyed Crewel needles work well.
– Bead mat (if you have one)
.… and don’t forget your glasses
REGISTRATION

Space is limited for this workshop – avoid disappointment by registering as soon as possible. BDI members will be given priority for signing up January 20 – 23. Registration will open to non-members as well as of January 24.

Deadline for all registrations is February 10th to allow mailed kits to arrive on time.

As of 1/24 – The class registration is full.  Please join BDI to have early access to future workshops.

Register and order the kit via Constant Contact or by email to programming@nullbeadesignerintl.org.

You will need an internet connection and a device you can use with Zoom (laptop or desktop computers seem to work best). You will receive your Zoom class link, via email, the morning of the workshop.

Ribbon Beads Video Introduction to Class
I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand: fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel and more.

My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists.

To enable me to achieve a balanced working life as a textile designer and maker of hand stitched work, I taught for over 30 years as a part- time Senior Lecturer and Research Fellow at Bristol University of the West of England. Teaching all types of textiles continued after I had taken early retirement at Heart Space Studios, which I set up to offer high quality textile-based classes and courses with other textile artists and makers. This lasted for 5 fascinating but exhausting years, then I closed it to concentrate on my own stitched work.

I kept the business name now working with a group of textile makers with whom I develop projects primarily for publishing companies and exhibitions, 2 of whom are working with me to produce this video. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books.
