Artists Tackle Corona: Inspiration and Creativity Prevail
Jo Anne Cooper, Mobilia Gallery
Back by popular demand! Jo Anne and her sister Libby last spoke at a Members Meeting in 2017. We are thrilled to kick off the new year at BDI, welcoming Jo Anne back to share stories of jewelry magic during this past year.
During the past two years Mobilia Gallery has curated two international, invitational exhibitions responding to the Covid pandemic. Jo Anne will discuss the responses of over 80 artists and include images, personal statements, innovative techniques and materials used to interpret life during the Age of Covid.
In May 2020, during the beginning of COVID lockdown Ornamentation in the Age of Corona: MASKS, explored the possibility of protection as an art form, with partial proceeds from sales benefitting the Massachusetts Covid 19 Relief Fund.
“In October 2021 Libby and I were invited to curate a collaborative exhibition, Upended Lives: Adornment During the Age of Covid by Elise Karlin, curator, writer and executive director of ADORNMENT MAGAZINE and Yvonne Marcowitz, Curator Emerita of Jewelry at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and editor of ADORNMENT MAGAZINE. They dedicated the entire issue of ADORNMENT MAGAZINE/Catalogue for this exhibition as a historical reference of what jewelers were creating during these unprecedented times.”
JoAnne Cooper is co-director of Mobilia Gallery, an internationally known gallery featuring 20th and 21st century decorative arts, sculpture, paintings and studio jewelry with an emphasis on installation. The gallery began in 1978 and has operated continuously for over 40 years. Cooper has curated many exhibits showcasing American and international artists with lectures, symposiums, traveling exhibitions and catalogs which provide a deeper understanding of the decorative arts and creative process.
RSVP DEADLINE IS 1/18/2022 at NOON.
