Spiny Knotted Bracelet Workshop with Stephanie Sersich

Wed November 8, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Stephanie Sersich is a fiber-artist, jewelry designer and glass beadmaker. While she works in several media, her signature jewelry incorporates a mixture of her own lampwork beads, vintage glass, ethnic beads, natural materials and fibers. The “Spiny Knotting” technique she developed allows more beads and small treasures to be bound into a single piece, so each one of the “ingredients” adds a distinct energy that works to complement all the others.

Stephanie lives on the coast of Maine and loves to spend time in her garden and studio, combining different colors and textures, whether beady or floral. For more information and more of Stephanie’s work, visit her website.

Spiny Knotted Bracelet Workshop with Stephanie Sersich

Make a fun and fabulous bracelet – a “party on your wrist”. Learn the simple knotting technique (based on macrame) and add all sorts of beads as you go.

In the workshop, we’ll use floss and waxed linen to bind beads and other treasures into a bracelet. The materials and methods provide an opportunity for self-expression—there is no pattern to follow, the beads can vary in size, color and shape. The unusual materials and larger bead sizes (a nice change from the intricate “seed bead” work) seem to level the playing field for beginners and long-time beaders. Most students will complete the bracelet in class.

Mandatory kits with all the beads and strings needed are $75 and will be available in Stephanie’s Etsy shop. Stephanie will send a needle and little beadboard at no charge to all the BDI students that order from her shop. (www.etsy.com/shop/StephanieSersich)

(Students are welcome to add in their own special beads and button to the kit.)
