Oct – Lampwork Glass Beads: Process, Product and Inspiration

Wed October 17, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Featured Artist: Ann Conlin

Monthly Meeting

Ann will be discussing her continuing journey through various areas of glassmaking, focusing primarily on the process of glass beadmaking along with various techniques to achieve different effects. She will also discuss what to look for when purchasing handmade glass beads.

Ann Conlin is a Massachusetts based glass artist, who is comfortable both in the hot shop and flamework studio along with other aspects of glassmaking including scientific glassblowing and stained glass. She began her love affair with glass in 1970, when her father introduced her to bohemian glassblower, Leigh B. Howell of Chelmsford, MA. She pursued her B.F.A. in glass from Mass College of Art where she was a student during the early studio glass movement in US, graduating in 1976. Her continuing education in glass spans decades at various prestigious and internationally recognized institutions including The Pilchuck Glass School, Pittsburgh Glass Center, The Studio at The Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, and MIT along with many regionally known glass and craft schools and private studios.

Ann has worked as a laboratory glassblower, apprenticed in a stained-glass studio and completed several commissions of her own. She is also an accomplished watercolorist, winning a number of local and regional awards and has participated in several juried shows.

Her work has been published in Bead Review, Book 2; A Year of Exceptional Art Glass Beads, Metal Clay Artist Magazine and Creating Glass Beads. She has exhibited in The Ohio Glass Museum, Bead and Button, The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Frank Bette Center for the Arts, Louisville Glassworks, the Krikorian Gallery the Worcester Center for Crafts, and The Concord Art Association. She is the current president of the New England Chapter of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers.

Free to members, $5 for guests (join now!).
