Handmade Lampwork Glass Beads & Jewelry

Sheila has worked in hot glass for more than fifteen years beginning with hot-shop sand-casting, then moving to the flameshop where she enjoys the intricacy of the torch and glass beads.  She teaches bead-making at Diablo Glass School in Boston and delights in showing students the thrill of the flame and the control one can gain.

All glass beads are handmade at Diablo using soft glass and traditional flameworking techniques – open torch flame one by one. Some beads include glass frit and enamels, some silver and copper foils, fine silver wire.  All beads are fully kiln-annealed for strength and durability, cleaned and inspected.  Her necklaces incorporate pearls, natural stones, metal and other materials.

Sheila’s aesthetic leans to organic colors, interesting shapes and textures. Her world travels and active imagination infuse her designs.  She sells her beads to creative jewelry designers at Northeast bead shows and on-line at www.CheckowayGlass.Etsy.com and Facebook as CheckowayGlass.
